When you think of Student Association, what comes to mind?
That is usually the common answer and before joining Student Association I thought that as well. But the truth is, Student Association is so much more and once I finally joined I could have never anticipated what I was getting myself into but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences.
Now many people say that their student government at UMD is simply the voice of the students, and they would be right. But what a lot of people don’t know is what it takes to be the voice of the students. It takes countless hours of meetings with administrators, committees, and fellow students to make initiatives as well as implementing them. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that takes place in Student Association to make UMD the best it can be for its students.
For example, Student Association took many trips this semester to meet with state legislators at the capitol in order advocate on behalf of the students with their concerns on the increasing tuition.
Or the fact that Student Association has proposed a better and more efficient parking structure to the faculty of UMD based off the feedback and demands that came from the student body.
It is important to know that Student Association is more than just Bulldog Taxi, everyday there is something that the organization is striving for in order to allow the students to have the best experience at UMD and it is crucial that the student body of UMD knows that if anyone has their back…it’s the their Student Government.
